High School Outreach Program 2023/2024
Reached 10+ High Schools & 100+ High School Students across Alberta
Established in 2019, the UA-WiSE High School Outreach (HSO) program seeks to empower all undergraduate students underrepresented in STEM fields by reaching the next generation of students. In this program, HSO volunteers host presentations to various schools across Alberta, highlighting the importance of diversity and opportunities to engage in STEM-related fields.
Presentations are hosted in October to November and February to March. If you are a teacher interested in scheduling a presentation for your students, please email uawse@ualberta.ca. If you are a high school student interested in attending this presentation, we encourage you to share this with your teacher or school advisor.
Our STEM 101 pamphlet is complementary to the presentations we host. In it, you'll find the various careers that STEM offers, opportunities for high school students, and other resources. Click on the button below to see the full pamphlet!
STEM 101: Promoting Diversity & Inclusion in STEM
UA-WiSE held its first in-person HSO event in March 2024. Approximately 20 students from high schools in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region were invited to the University of Alberta campus to meet current undergraduates in STEM programs and listen to a professional guest speaker in a STEM field.
